Rarest of the five South African tree Aloe species, Aloidendron pillansii, as it is called today, is a spectacular plant. It can grow as tall as 10 m high or more, with a stout main trunk moderately branched, with particularly thick whitish stems and pale blue-green leaves.
Inflorescence lateral, horizontal or pendent, densely branched, with cylindrical upward turned raceme and yellow flowers.
